Online Tennis Scoreboard

Tennis is scored in points, games and sets. Points go 0 (love), 15, 30, 40, then game, and at 40–40 (deuce) a player needs two points in a row. The first to win 6 games with a 2-game lead takes the set. ScoreBoard's tennis scoreboard counts games per set and tallies sets for you.

How the Tennis preset works

The Tennis preset counts games, not points: tap a player when they win a game. The set ends when a player reaches 6 games. If a set goes to 7–5 or a tiebreak, keep tapping and finish the set yourself. Use Next Round to start the next set.

How to keep score for tennis online

  1. Open the tennis scoreboard. The Tennis preset is already selected.
  2. Name the teams or players (2 to 12) and pick their colors, then tap Create Game.
  3. Tap a team’s card or its point buttons to add points. On a keyboard, press 1, 2 or 3 to score for that team and Shift + the number to undo.
  4. Open the gear menu for fullscreen and XL score size, or tap Share to get a 6-character code others can join at thescorekeeper.app/app/join.
  • Call the point score aloud ("30–15") and tap only when a game is won.
  • At 6–6, play a tiebreak and record it as the 7th game for the winner.
  • Use Next Round after each set so the top bar shows sets won.

Tennis scoreboard FAQ

Why is tennis scored 15, 30, 40?

Nobody knows for sure. The most common explanation is that early scoring used the quarters of a clock face (15, 30, 45), and 45 was shortened to 40 so that deuce and advantage fit before the hand reached 60.

How many games are in a tennis set?

A player wins a set by taking 6 games with a 2-game lead, for example 6–4 or 7–5. At 6–6 most events play a tiebreak to 7 points, which decides the set 7–6.

What does deuce mean in tennis?

Deuce is a 40–40 score. From deuce a player must win two consecutive points: the first gives them advantage, the second wins the game. If the other player wins the next point, the score returns to deuce.
